Norwegian Speaking In-house Translator

Due to the rapid growth of our business, Gear4Music has a new vacancy for a Norwegian speaking in-house translator.             

Reporting to the Translation Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the translation of a wide range of technical and commercial texts for Gear4music.

The Norwegian Speaking In-house Translator will have overall responsibility for:

Main Duties:

  • Norwegian translation of our website including; product descriptions, weekly updates, edits of product pages, PPC adverts, banner titles and website navigation instructions.
  • Translation of email templates, terms and conditions and legal statements on our website.
  • Editing of existing machine translations.
  • Assist with creating and terminology management.
  • Maintenance of glossaries and translation memories for musical contents, as well as translation of internal and external documents.
  • Liaison with the Translation Project Manager regarding quality assurance checks.
  • Ad hoc Norwegian Translation.

Essential Skills:

  • Native level fluency in Norwegian.
  • Strong English language skills.
  • Strong cultural understanding of English and Norwegian.
  • The ability to multi-task and prioritise heavy workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Capability to translate 2.500 words per day.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work flexibly and learn new skills and procedures.
  • Able to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Highly communicative.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of CAT software package (SDL, Trados Studio, memoQ.)
  • Degree in a translation/language related discipline or a music related study.
  • Previous experience in the language services industry.
  • Knowledge of musical instruments and equipment.

  • You must have eligibility to work in the UK.
  • You must have the ability to work from our office in York.

  • Working Hours (full time) Mon-Fri 39.5 hours per week
