Ofcom is looking for a self-starting fluent English speaker to interpret and translate from Arabic and Urdu into English (both verbally and in written form). Working within Ofcom’s Content, Standards, Licensing and Enforcement (“CSLE”) Team, the successful candidate will be required to provide translations of Arabic and Urdu programmes, broadcast on TV and radio. This is to assist the CSLE Team in assessing and investigating whether content complies with Ofcom’s rules in areas such as: harm and offence; due impartiality; commercial references; and incitement to crime.
It would be helpful but not essential if the successful candidate is fluent in Punjabi as well. Consideration will also be given to an exceptional candidate who is fluent in Arabic only.
This post is for an initial six month fixed-term contract, with, depending on the successful candidate’s performance, an option to extend the term of engagement or for the role to become permanent.
Closing date: 31 July 2017
