Translators Without Borders (TWB) are currently looking for support with their COVID-19 response and have received a huge increase in requests. They are particularly looking for help with revision and QA tasks* as it is now more important than ever to ensure accurate culturally-sensitive translations.
Please follow this link created especially for CIOL members – TWB offers automatic verification for translators who are CIOL members, fellows, Chartered Linguists and DipTrans certificate holders. This means that qualified translators will gain access to more requests and also be able to perform review and QA tasks. During the sign-up process, just select the ‘Chartered Institute of Linguists’ option in the ‘Verification’ section and then upload the relevant documentation.
*TWB works with a two-step translation and revision process, in which ideally a more senior translator will review the work of a more junior translator. The main job of the reviewer is to fix any translation errors or omissions and check terminology. They will also be asked to leave a quality rating of the original translation and be encouraged to leave constructive feedback for the translator. In this way, not only will more experienced translators be helping contribute to a good cause but they will also be mentoring more junior translators and helping build the skills of the next generation.
