The Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) held its AGM in central London on Saturday 10 March 2018 with a record number of attendees. With Karen Stokes FCIL CL, Chair of Council, in the chair, one of the first items of business was to elect Richard Hardie HonFCIL as CIOL’s new President following the very sad passing of former President, Dr Nick Bowen, in September 2017.
Karen congratulated Richard and at this point handed over the chair. The new President’s first task was to announce the result of the recently held Council election. Before this, Richard Hardie thanked Tom Gale, Dominic Brett, Christine Pocock and Judith Ridgway who were stepping down and paid special tribute to both Judith and Christine as long-serving members of Council.
The newly elected members of Council were confirmed as Eneida Garcia Villanueva MCIL CL, Rodney Mantle FCIL, Dr Reza Najafpour Navaei FCIL CL and Marta Stelmaszak Rosa MCIL CL.
Following items of normal business, members were also asked to consider and vote on two resolutions:
Both resolutions were approved.
After members’ questions, the President thanked all attendees for joining the AGM and closed the meeting at 10am.
