Tan was appointed to the Bench in 2003 and to full time office in 2009. He was appointed the Deputy Senior District Judge (Chief Magistrate) in 2017 and is now ‘ticketed’ to hear extradition and terrorism cases and is an Associate Judge of HM Court of Episkopi & Dhekelia in Cyprus. He has considerable experience of working both remotely and with interpreters.

Transform Justice and University of Oxford: Penelope Gibbs, Director of Transform Justice, former magistrate and Research Associate at the Centre for Criminology at the University of Oxford.
Penelope Gibbs set up Transform Justice in 2012 - a charity which advocates for a fairer, more open, humane and effective justice system in England and Wales. The charity promotes change through generating research and evidence to show how the system could be improved, and by persuading practitioners and politicians to make those changes

I am a solicitor advocate and managing director of a - multi office and discipline - predominantly legal aid practice. I have been qualified 30 years and worked in the criminal courts at all levels, specialising in longer trials.
I am the current chair of the Law Society’s Criminal Legal Aid Committee and have held positions in various other associated committees. I have also been engaged in training organisations for the professions.
