Country Walk & Talk: Alvechurch

Event report

"A mal tiempo, buena cara" seemed like it would be the slogan of the day as we gathered under darkening skies in a pub car park in Alvechurch. However, the gloomy weather forecast was not enough to deter nine hardy linguists from leaving our desks and interpreting booths and getting out to enjoy some of the Midlands’ most stunning scenery on a pleasant five-mile walk, planned and guided by Pat.

In the end, the intermittent showers meant that we enjoyed the moments of sunshine all the more. Our walk took in the lanes and fields around Alvechurch, with great views from the top of the climb, and we were lucky enough to stumble across a small herd of alpaca, sporting comical spring haircuts!

We rewarded ourselves with a hearty lunch at the Red Lion pub after the walk, where conversation ranged from the differences and similarities between translation and interpreting, the different countries where our members have lived and travelled, to flamenco, tango and more. The enthusiastic response to today’s event means we are likely to arrange another country walk in the near future.

Original listing

We are going on a five-mile walk to enjoy some fresh air and stunning views of the Worcestershire countryside, as well as the usual friendly company of other local linguists. The walk begins and ends at the Red Lion pub in Alvechurch and we will have a pub lunch and/or a drink there after the walk. Friends and family (including children) are also very welcome to join us.
