Mr Rob Beswick

Rob joined CIOL in 2019 as Head of Membership, responsible for both membership retention and growth strategy for CIOL. He works closely with CIOL's membership as well as a number of Committees and Boards to improve the member’s experience and is continually looking for new ways to support the linguistic community. Mrs Soheila Phillips

Training and Networks Manager

Soheila joined CIOL in 2007 as the Membership Manager, managing, developing and promoting all aspects of membership and the Chartered Linguist scheme. She ensured members received the highest level of customer service, streamlined numerous processes including moving to online renewals, and was constantly monitoring, reviewing and evaluating membership services. In April 2020, she changed job role and is now responsible for training; creating webinars and workshops, and also manages the networks. Her interest in languages stems from a bilingual upbringing and she has a degree in German and Linguistics.

Ms Grace Statton

Membership Manager

Grace joined CIOL in August 2018. She deals with all membership enquiries, providing support by phone and email. Grace was appointed Membership Manager in April 2020, and her duties include managing the renewal process, collating the requisite evidence for the assessment of all membership applications to join CIOL and processing the applications. She works collaboratively with the Head of Membership. Grace gained her experience in membership while working for the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals where she worked for four years before coming to CIOL.

Ms Thayeba Hussain

Membership Officer

Thayeba joined CIOL in September 2020 from a communications and membership background in retail and the non-profit sector. Her current duties include handling various membership queries and making key decisions on the assessment of new and existing members. She ensures that all our members are listened and responded to quickly and efficiently and that we work closely together with our members to deliver excellent customer service. She works collaboratively with the Membership manager. Thayeba graduated in 2017 with a BA in Linguistics and gained her membership experience while working at the British Safety Council. She hopes to progress her career in membership and help fellow linguists specialise in their domain.

Ms Deborah Butler

Communications & Marketing Manager

Debbie joined CIOL in 2014 after holding a number of marketing roles in the classical music, music education and not-for-profit sectors where she gained experience of communications, marketing and promotional strategies. She also has experience of brand development and representing organisations externally, both in the UK and internationally. In her role at the UK's chief music examining board, Debbie gained experience of promoting exams and working with examiners and educators. It was a keen interest in languages and other cultures that attracted Debbie to the communications role at CIOL. She works across both CIOL and IoLET, organising events and campaigns to raise the profile of the organisation through all communications channels.
