Chartered Institute of Linguists: Supporting and developing language professionals worldwide

October 2018

{contact.email_greeting}

It’s a busy time of year in membership as we continue processing renewals – many thanks to you all for renewing so promptly. We’ve been out and about promoting membership and the value of being chartered, with visits to the universities of Kent, Bath and Surrey planned for this month.

In addition our divisions and societies have kicked off the new membership year with some fantastic events including ‘Legal Translation for the Terrified’, held in Manchester. Both the Translating and Interpreting divisions have held their AGMs and we welcome two new TD committee members, Natalia Racheyskova and Rosa Insua Salgueiro, who were successfully elected.

Our online CPD programme is underway too, details of forthcoming events are detailed below.

And finally, our annual visit to the Hong Kong Society and China Association in Shanghai is planned for November. We will report on both these in due course.

2018–19 is looking to be another exciting, busy and rewarding year. If you have any feedback for the team please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards
CIOL Membership team

National Mentoring Day - 27 October 2018

National Mentoring Day is an annual event that highlights benefits of mentoring. CIOL is excited to celebrate this day with its very own mentoring platform. Launched in May, CIOL Mentoring has significantly grown and continues to do so with new sign-ups every day. We are looking for more mentors to meet current demand, so if you feel you have something to offer please sign up.

In celebration of National Mentoring Day, we would love to hear from members who are participants in the scheme and how you have benefited as a mentee or mentor.

Please email your story to comms@ciol.org.uk.
