Editing (revision)
Examination of a translation for its suitability for the agreed purpose, comparison of the source and target texts and recommendation of corrective measures.
Proofreading
Checking of proofs before publication.
DTP (Desktop Publishing)
Creation of documents using page layout software and skills. DTP generates layouts and produces typographic quality text and images comparable to traditional typography and printing.
Copywriting
Creation of promotional content conveyed through online media and print materials.
Subtitling
Creation of captions displayed at the bottom of audiovisual materials which translate or transcribe the dialogue or narrative. Subtitles can either be: a form of written translation of a dialog in a foreign language; or a written rendering of the dialog in the same language, with or without added information to help viewers who are deaf or hearing-impaired to follow the dialogue, or people who cannot understand the spoken dialogue or who have accent recognition problems.
Transcription
Conversion of spoken (or sign) language into written language. Transcription should not be confused with transliteration, which means representing a text from one script in another (e.g. transliterating a Cyrillic text into the Latin script, such as from Russian to English).
Voice-over
Speech recording usually read from a script, typically placed on top of visual materials. Linguists are often sought for this work not only for their ability in their native language, but also for their "non-native" accent reading a "native" text.
Software localisation
Adapting computer software for the different language, regional differences and technical requirements of a specific target market (locale).
