‘Cross-cultural communication’ is my principal research area. This is reflected in my PhD thesis entitled 'VARIABLES OF COMMUNICATIVE INCOMPETENCE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF IRANIAN LEARNERS OF ENGLISH AND ENGLISH LEARNERS OF PERSIAN' (SOAS, 1992). It highlights some of the major differences between English and Persian, accountable for miscommunication between Iranians and English speakers.
