Who is it for?
The Study Affiliate grade is for linguists who are intending to register for one of the following CIOL Qualifications professional exams:
- CIOLQ Certificate in Translation (CertTrans)
- CIOLQ Diploma in Translation (DipTrans)
- CIOLQ Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI)

Professional Development
You'll be part of a respected professional network of practising linguists; Study Affiliates can participate in a range of CPD events offered by CIOL and its professional divisions. Study Affiliates also benefit from a wide range of CPD webinars available free of charge to CIOL members in our webinar library.
Networking
Study Affiliates will be eligible to join one or more of CIOL's professional divisions – Translating, Interpreting or BPG (Business, Professions and Government) which provide networking events and online forums.
Professional journal
You have digital access to The Linguist, CIOL's professional journal.
Preparation & Advice
The CIOL website is full of useful support resources to help you develop your career and prepare for your CIOL Qualifications exam.
What does it cost?
Study Affiliate membership costs £30 for a 12 month period from the date your membership is activated.
When can I join?
You may apply at any time. Your membership will be active for 12 months.
What is the path to a higher grade of membership?
On completion of your CIOL qualification you can upgrade to an Associate (ACIL) with a Fast-Track application form. If you meet the criteria for full Member (MCIL) you will be eligible to upgrade. When upgrading we will apply a 30% discount on your first year of membership.
