CIOL Conference Season 2024

CIOL Conference Season 2024

Once again the season featured two specialist in-person events: CIOL Translators Day & Awards and CIOL Interpreters Day, as well as the one-day Online Conference accessible to an international audience.

CIOL Translators Day and CIOL Awards

Date: Friday 15th March 2024

Time: from 9.15am (registration) – 3:30pm, followed by CIOL Awards from 4pm - 6pm

Location: Etc.venues St Paul’s, London

This special all-day event in London, primarily for translators, focused on the specific challenges faced in the modern world; a great opportunity for fellow professionals to come together to learn from and network with each other.

Immediately after the main speakers, attendees were invited to stay for the annual CIOL Awards presentations and reception.

CIOL Interpreters Day

Time: from 9.15am (registration) – 3.30pm

Also taking place in London, our second one-day event was for interpreters. Like CIOL Translators Day, this event included a variety of presentations exploring the challenges and opportunities for interpreters and the spoken word.

CIOL Online Conference

Date: Thursday 21st March 2024

Time: from 10am – 3.30pm

Location: Online via Goto webinar

CIOL is dedicated to supporting translators, interpreters, educators and linguists in all walks of life, both in the UK and internationally. Our online conference will be of interest to all linguists and lovers of languages, wherever they are in the world.

The programme included renowned lexicographer, broadcaster and CIOL Vice President Susie Dent, CIOL Fellow and vastly experienced conference interpreter, consultant and trainer Maha El-Metwally, Professor of Linguistics Michelle Sheehan, and Duolingo’s Vice President of Learning and Curriculum Bozena Pajak. Hear also from Italian translator Giulia Lucania on the food and beverages industry, and Adam Wooten Translation, Tech/AI Consultant, Founder, Advisor and Associate Professor of Translation & Localization Management about the vibrant and ever-changing landscape and possibilities for linguists in today's evolving language service careers. All these speakers brought to life the rich interplay of languages, linguistics and the lives and work of linguists.
