Chartered Institute
of Linguists

Business, Professions and Government

The BPG Division promotes and celebrates the diversity of uses of high-level language skills across all professional sectors - from business to government, the armed forces and the not-for-profit sectors.

Our aim is to support and value those linguists who aren't working specifically as translators or interpreters, but whose language skills play a significant part in their work and benefit their organisations, clients, partners and stakeholders.

Using both spoken and written skills, from meetings, dialogue, calls and email to negotiating contracts, giving presentations, reading, reviewing or summarising documents, navigating cultural differences and helping international clients and visitors, BPG linguists do it all.

However they use their skills, BPG linguists know that their language expertise enhances their ability to do their job; as well as providing a common thread with all other linguists of an appreciation and love of languages. they are appreciated by their colleagues and clients and know that their language skills give them a competitive edge and point of differenne in their work, career and the wider the employment market.

If you are interested in supporting the BPG Division we'd be delighted to hear from you.

If you would like to write a piece on your work in Business, the Professions or Government for CIOL Voices please get in touch or if you are interested in sharing your experiences with other linguists in a webinar, do let us know.
