Working with a range of experts, stakeholders and Chartered Institute of Linguists Council members, CIOL has refreshed and updated CIOL AI Voices for 2025.
CIOL CEO John Worne said:
"As linguists, we have a unique responsibility to shape the development of language-related AI. Our expertise is invaluable. Ultimately, AI is not a battle to win, or a technology to ban; it is a capability we need to shape. And we are well placed to do so as it is built on what we do best: languages."
You can read the contributions from expert linguists from GCHQ, Prof. Sabine Braun of the University of Surrey, Bokani Hart, French/English Translator, Mark Robinson, CIOL Council member and Managing Director of Alexika, Vasiliki Prestidge, CIOL Council member and Director Greek to Me Translations, Katharine Allen, SAFE-AI, Dr Lucas Nunes Viera of the University of Bristol, Dom Hebblethwaite, Head of Membership CIOL and Steve Doswell Chair of CIOL here, as well as CIOL’s reflections on the current state of play with the use of AI in translation and language services, and also our concerns.
