Members of the Lincolnshire Society enjoyed meeting on Saturday 27 April 2024 in the recently refurbished Wig & Mitre, with the opportunity to try the new menu.
The topics of the interesting discussions (some based on several articles in the two most recent editions of The Linguist magazine) ranged from the work of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Modern Languages to how to inspire, prepare and train the translators, interpreters and teachers of the future. Concern was expressed about the severe decline in the number of young people studying a language since 2004. Finally conversation turned to the translation and teaching experiences of the members.
We were delighted to re-elect Lady Brigitte Peach as a Committee Member now that she has returned to the UK after her time in Brussels.
