Initially the Interpreters' Petition Group sought centralisation of Public Services Interpreting into a not-for-profit organisation, based on WIT's (Wales Interpreting and Translation Services). However that was rejected as a petition as it is not for UK Government to decide - it is an issue for the Local Authorities.
In respose to this the Association of Interpreters and Translators (AIT) suggested they petition for the protection of title. The Interpreters' petition group met to discuss and moved forward with this approach. After several exchanges with the Petitions Committee the petition has now been posted.
